SBGLL Season Outlook

South Beaverton Girls Little League is a non-profit volunteer based organization that facilitates the great game of softball to players in the areas of South Beaverton. While the Spring Season of the year is our main focus, we try to facilitate skill development throughout the entire year. Below is the general outline of a SBGLL season with general timelines for everything. We will try to communicate all information about specific dates, but always check the Calendar for upcoming events or reach out to us via email.

Fall Ball (mid-August to early-October)

SBGLL does not run a season of Fall Ball in association with Little League. However, SBGLL does recognize that players and parents want to continue skills development after the Spring Season has ended. We facilitate the organization and registration of teams to make it easier on the Manager's to focus on the team. Registration begins in July and teams will be completed in August. Practices will begin in mid-August, 1-3 times per week depending on Coach/Player/Parent schedules. Games are organized through local softball organizations like VGSA, NAFA, USA Softball, etc. These organizations have seasons start on August 1st, thus why our season begins with Fall Ball. Playing age is determined by age on December 31st. A player who is 9-years old at the beginning of the season (Aug. 1), but turns 10 in October would be "Playing Age 10." SBGLL only facilitates 10U (8-10yo), 12U (10-12yo) and 14U (12-14yo) teams. Games are typically on Sundays played with double headers in the month of September and beginning of October. While still being a competitive team, the Fall Ball season is geared towards players expecting to go up to the next level of play to learn the changes in pace of play and other rules at the next level

Annual Meeting and Board Elections (October)

SBGLL holds their Annual Meeting and Board Elections, open to the public, in October. The Annual Meetings covers, but isn't limited to, the previous season and upcoming season's forecasted financials, implementation of new rules, ratification of league documents, and election of the new board members. SBGLL encourages all parents and volunteers to attend board meetings and the Annual Meeting so that we can receive feedback from the community and structure the upcoming season for our players. For more information on reaching out to or becoming a board member, see the Board Page in the About tab.

Winter Workouts (November to February)

As most of the board members are either current parents of players or parents of players past, we always encourage the playing of other sports throughout the year for muscle development, strength and conditioning, and to prevent repetitive motion injuries. During the Winter Months, SBGLL rents a facility and holds several time slots on weekdays and weekends to facilitate skills development in the off-season. We encourage all players to attend as many workouts as possible, as their schedule permits. Workouts are typically ran by coaches of the previous or upcoming season, local high school coaches, and/or by local high school players. Workouts are not intense skills conditioning, but geared more towards honing skills and not losing any momentum achieved from the previous season. Levels AA, AAA, Majors and Juniors can expect to have individual or joined level workouts throughout the week.

Spring Season (December Registration, play from late March to July/August)

Registration for the upcoming Spring Season will begin in December. Levels T-Ball through AA will have teams divided as evenly as possible by the Player Agent and/or Lower Division VP. Teams will be organized based on age, experience, school, player and/or coaches requests, etc. Levels AAA and Majors will have a required player evaluation in February. If you cannot make the player evaluations, notify the player agent and/or Upper Division VP for an opportunity to have an evaluation during a Winter Workout session. After evaluations, players will then be drafted by the Division Managers. As AAA and Majors is more competitive due to ages and skills of the players, we conduct a draft at these levels to evenly spread out level experience across all teams. Players are expected to demonstrate their ability and fielding, baserunning, hitting, and pitching/catching. Appropriate indoor softball attire should be worn. While a player may evaluate for their registered level, it is possible that some players may go down to a lower level based upon several conditions including, but not limited to: Player Age, Player Experience and Skill Level, Player Safety, etc. These conditions are evaluated by the Player Agent, Division VP, Board, and Division Managers/Coaches as necessary.

Upon completion of the draft, Managers of all teams will be given practice schedules. Practices begin in March, AAA-Juniors towards the beginning of March, A and AA in mid-March, and Tee-Ball towards the end of March. Expect to practice 1-2 times per week for lower divisions (Tee-Ball/AA) and 2-4 times per week for upper divisions (AAA-Juniors) based on team schedules and field availability.

Games will begin in April, typically beginning with Opening Day Ceremonies the first weekend of April. Games per week is similar to March Practices, again based on rainouts, team schedules, and field availability. In May, we have an Annual SBGLL Alpenrose Day at District 4's Home Field at Alpenrose Dairy where all levels can expect to play. AA division should expect to have an internal league tournament towards the end of May/beginning of June. AAA and Majors levels should expect external tournaments in the season, typically 1 in April and 1 in June and possibly an internal division tournament (based on amount of teams in division, field availability, and player availability).

Postseason will begin with intent to play signups towards the end of May informing parents and players of known schedules, cost of play and evaluation process. This is used by the board to determine the numbers of teams that could be expected to play in postseason tournaments and uniforms to order. Registration for postseason will begin in early June. Evaluations will be conducted by, but not limited to, evaluation sessions similar to those in February, end of season division tournaments, Division Manager meetings, etc. Postseason Team Managers will be determined by the board in early June. Teams will be voted on by Division Managers upon completion of postseason registration and evaluation method(s). Practices will begin based on team availability, expect 3-5 practices per week while postseason continues
